Confirming my suspicion that art school is indeed more dangerous than prison, the Shank Series from Pratt Institute design duo Chen Chen & Kai Williams is a series of 30 — again, 30 — inventive handheld murder tools inspired by those normally found between the ribs of unsuspecting Sing Sing inmates.
Though they’re not “authentic” shanks — most feature welding, bolts, or adhesive applications that are presumably unavailable to incarcerated artisans — the knives in the series are formidable, and evoke the resourcefulness that prison imbues its inmates with (for better or for worse.) The pair have fashioned murder weapons from everyday items including pencils, toothbrushes, and lizard statuettes. Pratt must be rough.
Frankly, I’m pretty intimidated by this collection. I don’t know if it’s appropriate to buy something from it, but if you don’t share my moral qualm, you can purchase what’s left from the selling-out-fast collection right here. $75 USD.
