Thought I’ve always been turned off by the excess of Balenciaga‘s hi-tops, I have to admit that the low-top trainer construction might be the Basque brand’s sneaker sweet spot. The all-black pleated colorway, in particular, is just sublime, and almost rationalizes the exorbitant price that it commands at retail (to say nothing of secondary markets.)
Part of the Spring/Summer 2013 Contrast Panel Trainer pack, the black/black iteration is flanked by smooth white/navy/grey/green, and grey/navy/purple/gum colorways — neither of which boast the Kanye-pleasing pleats. The leather uppers and linings, adjacent to the composite rubber soles and off-center color choices, put the low-tops in a different class of high-end sneakers — one that I’d consider rocking.
All three colors are now available at LN-CC. $542-634 USD.
