Back in elementary school, having a good pencil was like the adult equivalent of having an iPhone 5. But eventually, that pencil wore down and became smaller and smaller till expiration. Dalton Ghetti took these pencils and saw art instead of death.
As a hobby, the Connecticut-based carpenter enjoys sharpening colorful pencils for fun and meditation. Using a sewing needle, he carefully carves each design from the expiring lead. Some of these designs could take months and even years. The tedious process involves removing specks of graphite, one at a time. Dalton must have the patience of a saint to do this for fun. I couldn’t get through a sentence without mauling the point.
