If you want your car to preserve the environment, but also preserve your chances of maybe catching a female gaze, consider the Porsche 918 Spyder Concept: a ferocious supercar that runs on lithium ion batteries.
Sometime in 2014, the German marque will introduce the hybrid drop-top, which claims 795-horsepower via a 4.6-liter V8 and three electric motors. It’ll hit 200mph almost effortlessly. The chariot variety is built from a variety of “magnesium-this” and “carbon-fiber-that”, and tips the scales at 3,747 pounds.
Conceived with the premonition that battery-powered whips will one day rule the land, the 918 Spyder rules right now, having turned in a very-respectable 7:22 time at Nuremberg.
All that performance is going to cost you, though. Early estimates put the 918 Spyder’s pricetag at around $900,000 USD. Taking care of the environment’s needs and your own ain’t so cheap.
