Transparent iPad Concept is a Look into the Future of Tablets [VIDEO]

I don’t really understand why designers spin up speculative concepts of commercial products to post on messageboards, but I’m glad they do. After this fan-fictive Bugatti earlier this week, designer Ricardo Afonso hits the web with a 3D model for a transparent iPad.

The unit — which exists only as a packet of data right now, and is not an official Apple release — is damn gorgeous, a next-generation cross between Obama‘s speech prompter and that interactive screen from Minority Report. App icons are suspended in orderly space, with the widths of the device bookended by aluminum tabs that house the iPad’s camera and battery, presumably.

Obviously, technology (especially that of the battery, which currently takes up a fair bit of space in real iPads) must advance a couple big leaps to make Afonso’s idea feasible. For now, we’re just happy he dared to dream.
