Nikon‘s Coolpix division is in denial.
Yesterday, the Japanese mega-corporation introduced the P520 & L820 superzooms, two more non-compacts with non-detachable lenses to fill the needs of pro shootersparty girls …uh, trade show bloggers?
If you’re the latter, read on:
The P520 ($450 USD) is for the affluent enthusiast, with its 3.2″ hinged VGA display, 18.1-megapixel sensor, and 42x f/3.0-5.8, 24-1,000mm lens. Motion pictures are handled by 1080/60i HD video capabilities, and if you’re tired of carrying a card-reader, you can add WiFi compatibility for an additional fee.
The L820 ($280) is somewhat-surprisingly powered by AA batteries rather than rechargeable cells. Could be useful for the international traveler who finds himself without an adapter, but it can be an Achilles heel/money pit for the same reason. The 820 boasts a 16-megapixel sensor and shoots 1080p HD video as well.
If — against all odds — you’re into the superzoom thing, both models will be available in black or red starting late February at Nikon stockists.
