Billboard broke the New Year’s best news so far: “No Church in the Wild” features so prominently in the official trailers for The Great Gatsby because Jay-Z himself is scoring the film.
The Baz-Luhrmann-directed flick is slated for a May 2013 release, and hype had stalled slightly since its first trailer hit the internet in May 2012. A few weeks back, Warner Bros. dropped the second teaser, and the hype was back. Then, The Bullits‘ Jeymes Samuel whipped things into a fever-pitch with his tweet from the band’s handle on December 30th:
Jay-Z and myself have been working tirelessly on the score for the upcoming #CLASSIC The Great Gatsby! It is too DOPE for words!

This stacks the deck even higher for the film, which frankly might not be the best thing for a project already tasked with the challenge to retell the most well-known story in modern American literature. That said, with HOV at the helm, it’s hard to imagine The Great Gatsby collapsing under expectations (“The pressure’s on, but guess who ain’t gonna crack?”).
