4 Series Coupe Concept | BMW

To the great enthusiasm of future lessees and hardcore BMW fanatics everywhere, the German automaker has inched closer to confirming the rumors that its 4 Series Coupe Concept will replace the tired 3 Series profile in its roster. The Los Angeles Times – currently embroiled in that city’s annual auto show — is reporting the concept will definitely replace the 3 coupe & convertible models by the end of 2013, though BMW hasn’t said anything official just yet.

We hope the Times is right. The 4 Series Coupe Concept is a furious, athletic, lithe creature that could be a huge shot in the arm to Bimmer, whose blood feud with Mercedes-Benz has allowed Audi‘s A5 to creep quietly into a strong position behind its fellow German marques. In the gunmetal gray colorway BMW released, the 4 Coupe looks a bit like an Infinity G37, but unlike that vehicle’s snubbed nose and tail, its hood and roofline sweep fluidly back towards the rear bumper.

And then, there’s the matter of its headlamps. Audi’s enjoyed years as the obvious leader in this category. Last holiday season, it even made a (admittedly terrible) commercial about its famous LED lights. BMW’s coming at the category with a bold, geometric new profile that harks back to the 3′s once-groundbreaking lights, while also bringing something totally new.

Stay tuned to BMW‘s website for an official confirmation.
